ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL

PLANNING MEETING

MARCH 17, 2008

      The Ashland City Council met for a regular Planning Meeting on March 17, 2008 at 4:00 P.M. with Mayor Terry Turner, Council Members Zeola D. Echols, Bobbie J. Steed, Gail E. Thompson and Rebecca G. Boddie in attendance. Also present was City Clerk Charles E. Foster, Asst. City Clerk Donna J. Bennett, Police Chief Benny Davis, Librarian Tina Nolen, Fire Chief Joel McMath, Maintenance Supervisor Randy Hanners, Mary Smith and Richard Arnold of the Clay County Chamber of Commerce, Louise Campbell, Leland Steed and Abby Pruet of the Clay Times-Journal.                                                                      

     Code Enforcement Officer Terry Raughton was absent.

    Discussion was held with Grant Writer Louise Campbell concerning the different grants that may be available to the City of Ashland during this grant period.  Mary Smith introduced Richard Arnold as the new President of the Clay County Chamber of Commerce and they discussed the upcoming Clay County Music & Arts Festival that will be held on May 17, 2008.  Ms. Smith stated that she had spoken previously with Mayor Turner and had asked that the flags be displayed on this day due to it being Armed Forces Day and that they be allowed to move the stage for the musical events in front of City Hall and also be allowed use of electricity from City Hall. Other items were also discussed including the roofing of City Hall and the Wynn Building.

    There was no business conducted at this meeting.

     Meeting was adjourned until 5:00 P.M. when the Regular Council meeting would begin.
