REGULAR MEETING
ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 4, 2008
The Ashland City Council met for a regular meeting on February 4, 2008 at 5:00 P.M. in the Ashland City Hall Auditorium with Mayor Terry Turner presiding. Council Members present were Zeola D. Echols, Bobbie J. Steed, Gail E. Thompson, Rebecca G. Boddie and Mike Beale. Also present was City Clerk Charles E. Foster, Asst. City Clerk Donna J. Bennett, Police Chief Benny Davis, Code Enforcement Officer Terry Raughton, Maintenance Supervisor Randy Hanners, Abby Pruet of the Clay Times-Journal, Jennifer Edwards of WCKF Radio, Sandra Willis, Billy Ballard and Leland Steed.
Librarian Tina Nolen and Fire Chief Chad Toland were absent.
Mayor Turner called the meeting to order and Council Member Echols gave the invocation.
Council Member Thompson moved to approve the agenda with the following additions. Under New Business, add Item No. 2. - Approval of Mayor and/or Council Members to attend annual convention in Birmingham; Item No. 3. - Acceptance of resignation from Justin Farr from the Police Department. This motion was seconded by Council Member Boddie and all votes were unanimous.
Council Member Boddie moved to approve the minutes of the previous planning meeting. Seconded by Council Members Beale and Echols and all votes were unanimous.

Under informational items, the Clay County Chamber of Commerce Annual Prayer Breakfast was discussed along with a Hospitality Training with the Alabama Cooperative extension System.
Under Committee Reports, Mayor Turner, Council Members Echols, Steed, Thompson, Boddie and Beale did not report.
City Clerk Foster and Maintenance Supervisor Hanners did not report.
Police Chief Davis reported that the new handheld radios had been received and being used. Chief Davis also expressed his appreciation to Randy Hanners for his assistance with the school crossings during his recent absences.
Code Enforcement Officer Terry Raughton gave an update on the Recreational Trails Project at Northside Park.

Under New Business, Council Member Beale moved to approve the bills received since the last meeting in the amount of $34911.21. Council Member Boddie seconded the motion and all votes were unanimous.
Council Member Boddie made a motion approving Council Members Steed and Echols to attend the annual Alabama League of Municipalities convention in Birmingham. This motion was seconded by Council Member Beale and all votes were unanimous.
Council Member Beale made a motion to accept the resignation of Justin Farr as an officer with the Ashland Police Department effective January 31, 2008. This motion was seconded by Council Member Echols and all votes were unanimous.
Council Member Beale made a motion to open the position of Police Officer with the Department with Chief Davis to advertise. This motion was seconded by Council Member Thompson and all votes were unanimous.
There being no further business, Council Member Beale moved to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Council Member Boddie and all votes were unanimous.
