REGULAR MEETING

ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL

 

JANUARY 22, 2008

 

 

     The Ashland City Council met for a regular meeting on January 22, 2008 at 5:00 P.M. in the Ashland City Hall Auditorium with Mayor Terry Turner presiding. Council Members present were Zeola D. Echols, Bobbie J. Steed, Gail E. Thompson, Rebecca G. Boddie and Mike Beale. Also present was City Clerk Charles E. Foster, Asst. City Clerk Donna J. Bennett, Karen Meek and Pattye Monroe of the Clay County Chamber of Commerce, Abby Pruet of the Clay Times-Journal, Johnny Elmore and Terri Tubbs of WCKF Radio and Leland Steed.

 

     Police Chief Benny Davis, Maintenance Supervisor Randy Hanners, Code Enforcement Officer Terry Raughton, Librarian Tina Nolen and Fire Chief Chad Toland were absent.

    

     Mayor Turner called the meeting to order and gave the invocation.

 

     Council Member Thompson moved to approve the agenda with the following addition. Under New Business, add  Item No. 4. - Purchase of new computer system for the Library. This motion was seconded by Council Member Boddie and all votes were unanimous.

 

     Council Member Echols moved to approve the minutes of the previous planning meeting.  Seconded by Council Member Beale and all votes were unanimous.

 

     Council Member Boddie moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. The motion was seconded by Council Member Echols and all votes were unanimous.

 

     Under informational items, Pattye Monroe requested on behalf of the Clay County Chamber of Commerce that they be allowed use of the Courthouse Square on May 17, 2008 to hold the first Clay County Music and Arts Festival.  Permission was granted.

 

     Under Committee Reports, Mayor Turner, Council Members Echols, Steed, Thompson and Beale and City Clerk Foster did not report.

 

     Council Member Boddie thanked the Maintenance Department for all the preparations that were made in case of severe winter weather.

 

     Under new business, Council Member Thompson moved to approve the bills received since the last meeting in the amount of $29545.37.  This motion was seconded by Council Member Boddie and all votes were unanimous.

     Council Member Boddie made a motion to add the Ashland Police Reserve Officers to the worker’s compensation policy underwritten by Municipal Worker’s Compensation Fund.  This motion was seconded by Council Member Beale and all votes were unanimous.

 

     It was noted that due to a clerical error a Code for a Sales/Delivery License had not been included in Ordinance No. 2007-12-03-01 previously approved.  At this time, Council Member Beale made a motion to amend Ordinance No. 2007-12-03-01 by adding a License Code of 999444 to be attached to Schedule J for a Sales/Delivery License.  This motion was seconded by Council Member Echols and all votes were unanimous.

 

     Council Member Thompson made a motion to purchase a new computer system for the Library.  This motion was seconded by Council Member Boddie and all votes were unanimous.  Council Member Thompson will get specifications needed for the purchase.

 

     There being no further business, Council Member Boddie moved to adjourn.  Motion was seconded by Council Member Echols and all votes were unanimous.
