SPECIAL CALLED MEETING

ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL

NOVEMBER 13, 2006

     The Ashland City Council met for a called meeting on November 13, 2006 at 3:15 P.M. in the Ashland City Hall auditorium.  Mayor Terry Turner presided over the meeting.  Council Members present were Zeola D. Echols, Bobbie J. Steed, Gail E. Thompson, Rebecca G. Boddie and Mike Beale.  Also present was  City Clerk Charles E. Foster. Linda McDonald and Ray Stansell of the Clay Times-Journal were notified of the meeting.

     Mayor Turner deemed a quorum was present and called the meeting to order.

     Mayor Turner asked if there was a motion on the floor to hire Benny Davis as Police Chief.  Council Member Steed made a motion to hire Benny Davis as Police Chief.  Council Member Echols seconded the motion.  Mayor Turner asked for a roll call vote.  Mayor Turner voted yea, Council Member Echols voted yea, Council Member Steed voted yea, Council Member Thompson voted nay, Council Member Boddie voted nay and Council Member Beale voted nay.  Motion died for lack of a majority vote.

     Council Member Thompson made a motion to hire Tony Tomlin as Police Chief and Benny Davis as Assistant Chief and Investigator.  This motion was seconded by Council Member Beale.  Mayor Turner asked for a roll call vote.  Mayor Turner voted nay, Council Member Echols voted nay, Council Member Steed voted nay, Council Thompson voted yea, Council Member Boddie voted nay and Council Member Beale voted yea.  Motion died for lack of a majority vote.

     With no further business to discuss, Council Member Thompson moved to adjourn.  This motion was seconded by Council Member Boddie and all votes were unanimous.
