REGULAR MEETING
ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 4, 2007
The Ashland City Council met for a regular meeting on September 4, 2007 at 5:00 P.M. in the Ashland City Hall Auditorium with Mayor Pro-Tem Bobbie J. Steed presiding. Council Members present were Zeola D. Echols, Gail E. Thompson and Rebecca G. Boddie. Also present was City Clerk Charles E. Foster, Asst. City Clerk Donna J. Bennett, Police Chief Benny Davis, Maintenance Supervisor Randy Hanners, Code Enforcement Officer Terry Raughton, Acting Fire Chief Chad Toland, Nakia Street and Baron Sandlin of Project R.O.L.E. Model, Leland Steed and Abby Pruet of the Clay Times-Journal.
Mayor Terry Turner was absent due to illness. Council Member Mike Beale was absent due to family illness.
Mayor Pro-Tem Steed called the meeting to order and Council Member Echols gave the invocation.
Council Member Thompson moved to approve the agenda, motion was seconded by Council Member Boddie and all votes were unanimous.
Council Member Boddie moved to approve the minutes of the previous planning meeting. Seconded by Council Member Thompson and all votes were unanimous.

Under informational items, it was noted that Ann Cunningham and Cindy Atkinson of Cheaha Mental Health had spoken with the Council Members present at the regular planning meeting.
Baron Sandlin of Project R.O.L.E. Model was late in arriving, but Nakia Street spoke on his behalf. Ms. Street reported on the status of Project R.O.L.E. Model and the new HIPPY Program. Ms. Street stated that grants were being applied for and that matching funds for the grants had increased to $9000.00 for the upcoming year. Ms. Street thanked the council for previous monetary help and asked that their appropriation for the upcoming fiscal year be increased from $1500.00 to $2500.00 to help meet their financial needs.
Under committee reports, Council Member Echols and Thompson did not report.
Council Member Boddie reported that the maintenance department had been working over several afternoons to help complete the pipe installation project on Tyson Road.

City Clerk Foster, Police Chief Davis and Fire Chief Toland did not report.
Maintenance Supervisor Hanners thanked Chief Davis and his department for their organization of the vehicle and crowd traffic at the recent football game.
Code Enforcement Officer Raughton reported that since November 2006 when the Dog Ordinance went into effect, the City of Ashland had picked up over one-hundred (100) dogs. He wished to thank the Maintenance and Police Departments along with the Ashland Housing Authority for their assistance in dealing with this situation. Council Member Thompson stated that she had been contacted by telephone and thanked for adoption of the dog ordinance.
Under new business, Council Member Boddie moved to approve the bills received since the last meeting in the amount of $15733.03. Council Member Thompson seconded the motion and all votes were unanimous.
Council Member Thompson made a motion to purchase five-hundred (500) fire prevention kits for $1.80 each and two-hundred-fifty (250) fire chief hats for $300.00 to be used during the fire prevention programs at the elementary schools. This motion was seconded by Council Member Boddie and all votes were unanimous.
There being no further business, Council Member Thompson moved to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Council Member Echols and all votes were unanimous.
